I had a similiar incident with two different fonts, and googled for this and ended up here. I have no idea what caused it, either, but I agree that it's interesting. For a moment there I wasn't even sure that the install was legitimate!
ReplyDeleteI too saw this weird font in the EULA and stopped the install. It looked like something malicious and I'm not running the update until whatever is broken in the installer is fixed.

ReplyDeleteYep, I just got this, and it wasn't the font in your screenshot either, it was totally illegible in most places, decided not to install as looked like either some kind of fake or an attempt to discourage reading the agreement. Mind you I doubt it would be considered enforceable like that, so apple may be shooting itself in the foot. What's wrong with plain text for something like that?

ReplyDeleteI just saw this too. From what other people are reporting, I doubt this is a bug. It seems to be an attempt to be "cute" by Apple, but it seems to be backfiring as most people seem to be very hesitant to continue the install. The font used on my machine is a sort of grungy scribble font. My initial reaction was to question what Apple was trying to hide in their license agreement. I figured they were hoping that by obfuscating the text to some degree, they could get people to just shrug their shoulders and install anyway. Well, not now. I had been putting off the upgrade for weeks and finally decided to let it install. However, with this piece of foolery, I think I'll put it off some more until a bit of light is shed on Apple's thniking!
